Memorialization

Last Updated: August 1, 2023

Rationale

Nevix respects the dignity of every individual and the decisions they made during their lifetime. We aim to ensure that the person's digital presence remains intact after their passing. Our memorialization policy outlines how we manage accounts of deceased individuals and our commitment to safeguard their online presence from unauthorized access or fraudulent activity. We allow friends and family to request the memorialization of a deceased individual's account. The account is then marked with "Remembering" above the individual's name, signaling it as a memorial site.

Nevix has implemented the option for users to assign a legacy contact who can manage their account posthumously. This contact, or family members, can request the removal or alteration of certain content. Our policy is sensitive to the needs of the bereaved and prioritizes preserving the deceased's privacy and respect for their life choices.

Prohibited Actions

To respect the dignity and privacy of deceased users, Nevix has identified certain content categories which are deemed inappropriate for their profile and timeline. When requested by a legacy contact or a family member of the deceased, Nevix will remove:

  1. Visual depictions of the object used in the deceased’s death.
  2. Imagery of the convicted or alleged murderer of the deceased.
  3. Content related to the deceased’s death.
  4. For victims of murder, references to the convicted or alleged murderer from the deceased’s profile (including relationship status or friends).

These prohibitions are designed to respect the deceased's memory and protect their loved ones from distressing content.

Actions Requiring Additional Context

In some cases, we require additional information or context to effectively implement our policies. When a violation is brought to our attention by the legacy contact or a family member, we will:

  1. Remove violating comments on a memorialized profile. Typically, we would require the individual who posted the comment to report it. In this context, we understand that they might be unwanted, so we take action based on the bereaved's report.
  2. Remove any content that praises or supports the death, disease, or harm of the deceased person on a memorialized profile.
  3. Change the privacy settings of the deceased individual’s profile from public to friends-only when harmful content is identified.
  4. Alter an account name that violates our community standards on the profile of the deceased individual.

Memorialization Request Process

To memorialize an account, please contact Nevix support providing necessary documentation such as a death certificate or obituary. Only a verified immediate family member can request the appointment of a legacy contact.

Please note that Nevix reserves the right to refuse requests that violate our policies or cannot be adequately substantiated.

Privacy and Respect

We kindly request all users to respect the privacy and feelings of those grieving. Posting harmful or disrespectful content regarding the deceased not only hurts their loved ones but also violates Nevix's community standards.
